Journey Academy works with vulnerable teens who are bright and capable but struggling to find their place in the world. Journey Academy is comprised of a Non Public School and a Short Term Residential Treatment Program.

Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer and in collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team, this position oversees Journey Academy. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Senior Director of Journey Academy works to establish a strategic plan for long term viability and growth of the program. Primary responsibilities include development and ownership of an established budget, coordination of quality control, tracking trends, implementing policy changes coming from federal, state and county levels, and facilitating program and staff development.


  • Serve on the Executive Leadership Team (which includes the CEO, COO & CFA) to oversee the overall strategic direction of the agency and attainment of agency goals
  • Oversee the Journey Academy team and offer leadership and oversight of the delivery of services and treatment in accordance with the mission, values, and the goals of the organization
  • Ensure paths to quality continuum of care across programs
  • Negotiate contracts with county partners and school districts
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve successful youth and family outcomes
  • Develop and track quality outcome measures across the agency
  • Analyze trends in the programs; identify issues and develop/recommend solutions and new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the program
  • Provide direct supervision to team members, including those in director and leadership positions
  • Ensure program services and activities comply with all relevant legislation, professional/national standards and agency policy and procedures
  • Communicate with residents, families, significant stakeholders and other service providers to enhance client relationships and improve services
  • Provide crisis management in collaboration with leadership team
  • Participate in state advocacy associations and national accreditation efforts as assigned or required
  • Track and ensure implementation of accreditation requirements such as STRTP, CCR, Joint Commission, Juvenile Justice, and Human Rights Campaign
  • Maintain relationships with organizations and stakeholders such as NATSAP, county partners and placement representatives
  • Work with CEO and COO on projects and needs set by the Board of Directors
  • Use outcome data to manage staff and program performance evaluations


  • Excellent leadership skills, creativity, and flexibility to meet a variety of needs throughout the agency
  • Prior experience and demonstrated skills in a supervisory position
  • Knowledge of child welfare and education systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience tracking, integrating, implementing new legislation or relevant legislation and compliance standards

  • Experience being the liaison between the agency, community, and county partners


  • Minimum of a Masters Degree in behavioral health/social services, special education or related field, from an accredited educational institution
  • Two years post-degree management experience in a related field
  • Experience in residentially based services is preferred
  • Prior experience in WASC accreditation preferred
  • Bilingual/Bicultural Spanish-English is preferred
