SMART reserves the right to determine and amend job responsibilities.·         Manage, monitor, coordinate and control all aspects of track maintenance programs, processes, resources and activities relating to regular and extra work projects.·         Assists in accident investigation and unusual occurrences; assists in determining cause; develops and implements corrective actions.·         Prioritizes, schedules or cancels work orders due to scheduling conflicts or unsafe conditions.·         Reads, interprets and understands schematics, service and safety manuals, electrical drawings andcircuit operations.·         Oversees and participates in track maintenance.·         Inspects station platforms, bike path, fencing and ROW signage.·         Reports back on wayside issues such as access, homeless, safety,vegetation and graffiti removal.·         Performs flagging duties.·         Prepares, issues and collects daily operational documents.·         Reviews and evaluates work and makes effective suggestions and recommendations; ·         References manufacturer schematics (manual and online) to resolve maintenance issues;·         Safely operates equipment;

  • ·         Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion;
  • ·         References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications;
  • ·         Monitors subordinate staff’s performance and ensures adherence to SMART, FRA, CPUC standards and regulations.
  • ·         Actively supports Track Maintainers’ ongoing skill building by providing periodic classroom training for certification and skills enhancement.
  • ·         May cover Track Maintainer duties as necessary.
  • ·         Assures quality control using SMART’s Maintenance Management Information System (MMIS) to generate reports and maintain proper recordsActively reviews and analyzes maintenance activity reports for repairs, equipment failures and parts usage trendsto determine if corrective action is needed.
  • ·         Reports on failures of components.
  • ·         Assigns specific tasks to subordinate staff using the SMART work order system including withdrawl of parts from inventory, and reviews tasks upon completion for accuracy of work and closure of work orders.
  • ·         Independently performs varied and complex inspection and diagnostic work.
  • ·         Ensures the safety of maintenance personnel working on track by implementing work area protections per SMART and FRA standards.
  • ·         Manages the inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of tunnels, bridges, embankments, and wayside equipment.
  • ·         Assigns and directs the work and activities of subordinate staff.
  • Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • This Supervisory-level position will be responsible for the assignment of work including scheduled, non-scheduled, regulated, and emergency repairs. This position will provide hands on supervision of subordinate track maintenance staff. This position will be responsible for work activities on multiple shifts as well as weekends and holidays to ensure safe and efficient transportation to the public. This position is a working supervisor position and limited budgetary responsibility.
  • Requirements
  •  Minimum Qualifications:·         Minimum five years’ experience, with two years in a supervisory capacity, track maintenance or construction in a rail transit system environment.·          ·         Experience in supervision, track maintenance, warranty administration, and FRA inspection compliance.·         Successfully complete vendor training on railroad signals and communications equipment and maintenance procedures;·         Successful completion of SMART Training program and post-training qualification period.·         Satisfactory driving record as defined below:o   No “at fault” in a fatal accident within the past 5 years;o   No DUI’s or Reckless Driving codes within the last 7 years on the current DMV printout.· Must be available for on-call responsibility 24 hours, 7 days per week for Track related problems.
  • ·         Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment medical exam that uses the standards of the California Commercial Driver’s License.
  • o   No leaving the scene of an accident within the past 3 years;
  • o   No more than two moving violations and/or “at fault” accidents within the last 3 years;
  •  Possession of a Forklift Operator Certification (or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment).
  •  Must meet 49 CFR Part 213.7(a) requirements.
  •  Computerized maintenance management experience is highly desirable;

  • ·Possession of a valid California’s drivers’ license (or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment).
  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED or recognized equivalent.

  • ·         Base hourly wage: $46.81 - $56.91 per hour.
