Seeking a professional, skilled and experienced caregiver for a unique and dynamic role within our household on a beautiful Sonoma County property. This full time, live on property (if desired) job offers a rare opportunity to provide quality caregiving and home management assistance to a woman living with dementia and her husband who is  managing his own responsibilities while taking on tasks his wife used to handle. The wife is a refined former healthcare professional who instinctively remains highly active. The husband is a successful former executive with sophisticated taste and a broad range of professional and life experience. Seeking candidates with passion and experience in providing personal care for people living with dementia, as well as  participating in various household duties.

Successful candidates will have high energy, good judgment, and flexibility to mesh with the activities and needs of  this couple in their current environment. Must demonstrate a mastery of the required areas of expertise, possess the ability to maintain a professional demeanor and relationship, and have a creative problem-solving ethic. Attention to detail and organization required. 

There is a separate home on the property where the candidate could live if desired. Couples considered.

 Hours: Full Time. On-duty time to be agreed upon. Flexibility required.

Qualifications

  • Expertise working with dementia (minimum 2 years)
  • Experience with in-home assistance (minimum 2 years)
  • Will work with the candidate to determine a schedule.
  • Chef training and/or experience preferred

• Proactive, service oriented, “whatever it takes” mindset. Maintain professional boundaries, exercise discretion,  honor clients’ privacy.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to plan each day according to client needs and interests.
  • Provide ADL assistance as required and supervision to maintain safety and dignity. Basic medication management including reminders, documentation and set-up.
  • Coordinate health appointments as requested.
  • Accompany client on frequent walks, outings, outdoor chores such as leaf raking and porch sweeping, and errands as desired.
  • Provide client with consistent opportunities for life enrichment, including engaging activities, planning casual social gatherings, and maintaining independence. Occasional overnight coverage should husband be out of town.
  • Manage and execute meal planning and preparation (in particular the evening meal) at a high quality level.
  • Shop for healthful, high quality food. Understand and reflect clients’ preferences.
  • Household cleaning and maintenance provided by others.
