Salary Range::  $63K - $94K DOE                                            Schedule:              M-F, 7:30AM-4:30PM

 

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer is responsible for the design of HVAC, plumbing and process piping systems for design build construction projects.   This includes producing complete design documents for permit submittal and construction. The project engineer is an engineer in training meaning he / she will receive guidance, training and design review from the Engineering Manager for direction of design parameters, system selection, code reference, industry standards and construction implementation. As the project engineer progresses in knowledge and experience the level of guidance and training will be reduced. A fully trained project engineer / engineer in training will be self sufficient in completing HVAC and pluming designs for various projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Designs HVAC, plumbing and process piping systems for industrial, commercial and high rise residential markets
  2. Calculates HVAC and plumbing system load and system selection / sizing
  3. Selects and locates HVAC and plumbing equipment
  4. Field survey and as built existing HVAC and Plumbing systems for renovation projects
  5. Duct and piping sizing and routing
  6. Develops construction details and schematic diagrams
  7. Designs HVAC and plumbing controls including sequence of operations, points list and P&ID’s
  8. LEED project documentation for applicable HVAC & Plumbing related credits
  9. Produces full sets of permit documents with on screen design using AutoCAD based software
  10. Calculates and documents according to Title 24 energy code compliance
  11. Energy modeling to determine system life cost and payback periods for alternative systems
  12. Presents and coordinates system design with office staff, field crew, other team member and clients
  13. Develops HVAC and plumbing system design solutions based on engineering principles and be involved in presentation of the solution to customer
  14. Resolves operational problems related to projects and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases
  15. Supports sales team in pre-sales technical concept and budgeting activities
  16. Interprets client requirements, identify and address design parameters and engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and maintain project budget
  17. Other duties as assigned

Non-Essential Job Duties:

  1. Engages in business development
  2. Assists with design build proposals
  3. Attends design and coordination meetings.
  4. Prepares for Professional Engineering (PE) License examination
  5. Permit application and allocation from jurisdiction having authority
  6. Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET Accredited University
  2. Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
  3. Critical thinking with exceptional problem solving skills, able to work independently or in team environment
  4. Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals
  5. Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment
  6. Travel as required to support projects; valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to travel the Bay Area.

 

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  1. LEED Accredited Professional (AP) / Green Associate (GA)
  2. ASHRAE Involvement
  3. Experience with load calculation & energy modeling software- HAP
  4. Experience with Title 24 software- EnergyPro
  5. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, Revit

ADA Specifications:

Position requires sitting for prolonged periods and occasional standing and walking. Manual dexterity required for computer work.  There is occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.  Office work environment with a moderate noise level.
