JOB SUMMARY:

The full Charge Bookkeeper is responsible for executing a variety of accounting procedures and analysis.  Duties include the preparation of the company’s financial statements and supporting schedules, reconciliation of general ledger accounts and bank statements, preparation and recording of adjusting journal entries, job cost review and analysis, maintaining the fixed asset system, preparation of regulatory tax returns, and assisting the Controller with forecasts, budgets and additional tasks as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares the company’s financial statements and supporting schedules
  2.  Reconciles general ledger accounts and bank statements
  3. Prepares and records adjusting journal entries including monthly accruals
  4. Ensures accuracy and integrity within subsidiary ledgers
  5. Reviews general ledger accounts for errors and omissions
  6. Coordinates monthly and year-end closings along with the production of financial statements to guarantee timely reporting
  7. Assists in updating and adherence to monthly and year-end closing procedures
  8. Prepares and reviews subsidiary, supporting schedules and budgets to ensure the Company's accounting practices are being maintained and makes recommendations where applicable
  9. Prepares reports for internal and external use, documentation for outside auditors
  10. Reconciles fixed assets and recommends changes to policies as needed
  11. Prepares state sales and use tax returns and other tax reporting requirements
  12. Reviews accounts payable aging and vendor statements for problems
  13. Other duties and tasks as needed

Non-Essential Job duties:

  1. Serves as back-up for other accounting/administrative functions when necessary
  2. Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Controller

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Four-plus years of accounting work experience prefer the construction industry
  2. Working knowledge of construction accounting principles, practices, and procedures in manual and automated systems
  3. Strong problem solving and decision-making skills, work ethic, organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work with others
  4. Effective time and project management skills; history of meeting commitments and sense of urgency with respect to deadlines
  5. Word, Excel, Outlook and online banking experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Construction industry accounting work experience
  2. Knowledge of accounting software, preferably Vista by Viewpoint
  3. Union environment
