Starting salary up to $148,373/year, and a cash allowance of approximately $600/month.
 

Under the direction of the Health Officer and Deputy Health Officer, this position will be responsible for planning and supervising the work of the COVID-19 Section’s nursing workforce and allied personnel to assure understanding and compliance with laws, regulations, and agency policies, to achieve the goals of the COVID-19 section, and to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Please Note: This job class requires current possession of a California State Public Health Nursing Certificate and five years of progressively responsible public health nursing experience, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity.

About the Position

In partnership with Public Health and Health Services leadership, this position will:

  • Develop and modify nursing and medical strategies necessary to respond to the pandemic
  • Ensure program operations and services are consistent with applicable federal, state, and local health orders
  • Represent the Section and speak before public bodies, groups, and community organizations as needed
  • Provide staff work to advisory bodies relevant to the functioning of nursing efforts of the Section
  • Conduct and participate in staff meetings within the Section
  • Implement the department’s 18-month work plan for Emergency Preparedness
  • Provide subject matter expertise and professional oversight for nursing skills for the department
  • Provide oversight for nursing compliance and quality control
  • Develop quality assurance and performance measures, clinical programs, and services for the Section related to nursing and allied personnel COVID-19 response
  • Oversee professional development of all nursing personnel, including the oversight and adherence to appropriate HIPPA and health regulations, codes, and licensure or certification requirements
  • May participate in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this position will possess:

  • Five years of progressively responsible public health nursing experience, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity will generally provide the knowledge and abilities listed
  • Extensive knowledge of modern principles, practices, and methods of public health nursing, including community, clinical, school, and special nursing programs; and federal, state and local laws and regulations governing public health
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel and fiscal administration, including effective supervision and training
  • Working knowledge of community resources available for assistance in public health nursing, and current trends, concepts, and best practices in public health nursing
  • Experience and the ability to exercise responsibility, initiative, independent analysis and judgment, in solving highly specialized nursing administration and management problems
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, recognize social and community problems which affect health, establish effective programs and services, and communicate verbal and written ideas clearly and logically

A Master's Degree with a major in Nursing Administration or a Master's Degree in Public Health is highly desirable.
