Adult & Aging Social Work Assistant - Time-Limited

Starting Salary up to $27.44/hour* ($57,270.57/year), plus a cash allowance of $600/month, and a competitive total compensation package!
As a Social Work Assistant in Adult Protective Services (APS), you will act as a liaison between APS Social Service Worker IVs and clients by providing supportive services, including: shopping for clients, providing client education on available resources, transporting adult and aging clients to appointments, assisting with the completion and submission of benefit applications such as Medi-Cal and CalFresh, and completing short assessments such as the Prevention Re-Housing Vulnerability Index - Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (PR-VI-SPDAT). Additional Social Work Assistant responsibilities include:
- Providing education and coaching to clients in preparation for appointments and interviews; such as with medical providers, landlords, or community agencies
- Purchasing and delivering supplies, such as food and clothing, during emergencies
- Coordinating client enrollment in food distribution and other programs
- Assisting in case management by reviewing and following instructions, writing basic case notes, and providing documentation
- Assisting with the completion and submission of housing and shelter applications and supporting clients with packing and moving to new locations
- Completing accurate and time sensitive documentation
The ideal candidate will possess experience working with social workers and social work caseloads, have a working knowledge of community resources available to clients, and possess:
- The ability to create clear and concise case notes and documentation
- Sound judgment and the ability to work collaboratively with team members
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain rules, eligibility criteria, and regulations to clients
- Social services experience working with the elderly or people with disabilities
- Experience conducting home visits and working in the field
- Experience working with clients who are in crisis; such as those who are homeless, victims of abuse, or experiencing medical or mental health challenges
- Experience working with professionals; such as those from legal, housing, medical, code enforcement, and other social services agencies
- Knowledge of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) voucher system and homeless shelter system
- The ability to be flexible and reprioritize tasks for the day based on program needs and client urgency
- Experience using the Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

The Human Services Department is recruiting to fill one time-limited Adult & Aging Social Work Assistant position that is currently funded through June 30, 2024. This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list.
