Police Officer (Entry/Lateral)

The ideal candidate has education and/or experience which demonstrates personal motivation; has strong interpersonal skills; deals effectively and fairly with citizens and co-workers; identifies a problem and resolves it quickly while under pressure; and wants to live in a small town environment on the scenic Mendocino Coast.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of California POST approved Basic Academy at time of appointment; and
  • Possession of a valid Class C or higher California Driver’s license; good driving record; and
  • At least 20 years of age at the time of application; and
  • A high school graduate or pass the General Education Development (GED) Test indicating high school graduation level; and
  • Meet and maintain adequate physical fitness, endurance and agility; and
  • Individuals with glasses or hard contact lenses require uncorrected vision of 20/80 or better in both eyes. All individuals must be corrected to 20/20 in both eyes, and meet
  • POST standards for color vision and hearing.

Desirable Education and Experience:

  • Preference will be given to those applicants who possess an Associate of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences Degree or higher.
  • Possession of a POST Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Certificate.
  • Employment with another department and submitting as a lateral is highly desirable.
  • Possession of Advanced First Aid certificate, including CPR.
